The Honda CR-Z, the hybrid coupe with a six-speed manual gearbox, is growing an audience in hybrid buyers who want a sporty car and a fun-to-drive alternative to the typically stale hybrid class.
With the young generation growing every day toward a more responsible lifestyle, the CR-Z allows them the thrills they need without the cost of leaving a large carbon footprint. The CR-Z’s three-mode drive system allows drivers to determine what type of driving style they are interested in experiencing. With a simple button press, drivers can explore the Sport Mode, which allows for a more thrilling drive, or Econ Mode, which makes the CR-Z more conservative with fuel consumption and emissions. There’s a Normal Mode, too, for a wonderful balance of the two.
Already launched in Japan, the CR-Z is doing fantastic – more than 10,000 had place preorders for the CR-Z, which was 10 times the amount Honda originally targeted as a monthly sales target. Last month saw its release in Europe, with much clamor. The video above shows an aftermarket customizer getting his first experience with the CR-Z stateside.
The Honda assembly plant in Marysville, Ohio has something to celebrate this month as the 10 millionth vehicle manufactured rolled off the line. This was the first time any of Honda’s plants outside of Japan have achieved such a number, so it truly is a milestone for Ohio and Honda of America. Congratulations, all! The vehicle was put on display in the plant’s cafeteria, where it could serve as a proud example of American grit and Japanese technology for any to come and see.
Who will be lucky enough to get this historic Accord has yet to be determined, as the vehicle will remain at the plant for the time being.
Honda has a bold future planned for itself, including a battery-electric vehicle and a new plug-in hybrid vehicle coming stateside in 2012. The company also announced a new lithium-ion battery for the next-gen Civic Hybrid by 2011.
By end of 2010 and through 2011, Honda will roll out a battery-electric vehicle demonstration in the US, with participants to include Stanford University, Google, and the whole city of Torrence, CA. They will be evaluating Honda’s upcoming electric and hybrid vehicles, including a mysterious “battery-electric commuter vehicle” and a more efficient lithium-ion battery for their line of upcoming hybrids. Torrence will receive the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle for evaluation by no later than year’s end. Very exciting times, as it is apparent many car companies are slowing turning away from conventional fuels, and marketing the alternatives. These next few years should prove interesting for the industry as a whole.
Chosen from over 46 beautiful and talented women, we are proud to announce Jaclyn Raulerson was crowned Miss Florida 2010 this past Saturday during the ceremonies in St. Petersburg. In addition to the prestigious recognition of being Miss Florida, Jaclyn will now have the opportunity to compete for the Miss America crown.
Jaclyn had some kind words to say about her home state:
“It is such an honor to be able to represent my home state. I absolutely love living here, and the [Miss Florida] organization has provided me with many opportunities in the form of scholarships and support,” Raulerson said Sunday. “It’s just a blessing to be the one selected.”
Raulerson started as a teen contestant in 2003 and finished among the top 15 in the Miss Florida competition last year. She said her relatives and friends from school and her hometown had supported her pursuit of the crown, and were still congratulating her on her success. We offer her congratulations, as well, and are excited to have her as our state’s representation in the Miss America Pageant later this year.
The 2011 Honda Accord Sedan and Coupe will be receiving significant upgrades including improved fuel economy, an enhanced exterior and interior styling, and the revealing of an all-new leather-equipped Special Edition trim level. Available as a sedan or coupe, with a 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder engine, the Accord is a unique balance of performance and efficiency and a great value to boot.
A new front grille and bumper shape expresses an upscale and aggressive stance, while an all-new wheel design adds elegance to an already attractive profile. Interior styling on all models provides attainable luxury and generous standard equipment, with well-placed gauges and instruments and an ergonomic layout. The fold-down rear seats make the Accord quite versatile for cargo transport, while the front seats exude a sporty nature and provide lumbar and lateral support in a handsome package.
Safety is, as typical for Honda, a class-topper, and includes Honda’ proprietary ACE body design which enhances occupant protection and crash safety in frontal crashes, reducing the forces transferred to the passenger compartment in the result of a collision.
The 2011 model year is looking great for the Accord Sedan and Accord Coupe, and will go on sale this August. For the most up-to-date information on the Accord and the whole Honda family, keep posted to this blog, or visit the South Honda website.
